LIKE A SONG I HEARD THE OTHER DAY
DA SILVA GALLERY, NEW HAVEN, CT 2019
For this exhibition I collaborated with Brian Keith Stephens to create Song Quilts. Composed of fabrics, photographs, words and musical lyrics, Song Quilts intend to provoke thoughts on pattern and memory—exploring ornamentation, decoration, nostalgia and influence. Patterns of behavior, patterns of movement, patterns in nature, patterns in life, and patterns in art. Our collaboration in this presentation refers to the repetition of experiences and ideas and the possibility for originality through pattern.
The fabrics and ephemera included in this exhibition include quilts from my country, Poland, as well as gifts from our friends and family. With each object comes a narrative, things which are coded in our consciousness, from genetic inclinations to songs, and images fixed in our minds.
